Turning 30 is a milestone that many people dread, but it doesn’t have to be. It’s been 10 months already since I started my 30s journey and honestly it’s been a bliss. Your 20s are a time of exploration, discovery, and growth, but they can also be stressful, confusing, and overwhelming. As you approach your 30th birthday, make sure to prioritize experiences and connections over material possessions. Here are some things to do before you turn 30 that will enrich your life and make you feel more fulfilled.
PS: I’m still working on achieving most of these; it’s not too late!
1. Travel to a new country.
Travelling is one of the best ways to expand your horizons, learn about different cultures, and have fun. Whether you want to backpack across Europe, visit the pyramids in Egypt, or explore the wildlife in Australia, there is a world of possibilities waiting for you. Travelling can also help you develop new skills, such as language learning, problem-solving, and adaptability. Plus, you’ll have amazing stories and memories to share with your friends and family.
In my 20s I got an opportunity to spend a part of my life in China and that really changed the person in me such that given a chance to travel and be in a different place right now I would grab it with both hands. From learning the language, culture and meeting friends from all parts of the world is a lifetime memory I could never forget.

2. Try a new hobby or skill
Learning something new can boost your confidence, creativity, and happiness. It can also help you discover new passions and talents that you didn’t know you had. You can try absolutely anything! The important thing is to have fun and challenge yourself. You never know; you might find your new favourite hobby or even a potential career path.
I remember coming back home and Covid 19 had just begun, and having no job, I decided to try sewing. Guess what? I have been sitting on my machine almost every day since, and I must say it has opened so many doors and opportunities for me. Started as a hobby and is now paying bills! Below are some of my creations:

3. Get your finances in order and start saving for retirement
It may seem too early to think about retirement when you’re in your 20s, but it’s never too early to start planning for your future. The sooner you start saving for retirement, the more time your money has to grow and compound.
Our economies might be a hindrance to all that planning, and we have all been struggling to sustain our day-to-day lives; however, consulting some financial institutions might come in handy as they have infinite ways to help.
Besides saving for retirement, there are other aspects of your finances that you need to take care of For example, you should create a budget that tracks your income and expenses and helps you manage your money better. You should also build an emergency fund that covers at least three to six months of living expenses in case of unexpected events, such as job loss, medical emergencies, or car repairs. Additionally, you should review your insurance policies and make sure you have adequate coverage for your health, life, home, car, or other assets.
4. Volunteer in your community
Volunteering is a great way to give back to your community and make a positive difference in the world. You can volunteer for a cause that you care about, such as animal welfare, environmental protection, or education. You can also volunteer for an organisation that matches your skills and interests, such as a local library, museum, hospital, school, or church. Volunteering can also help you meet new people who share your values and passions. You’ll feel more connected and fulfilled by helping others in need. I will come back with a detailed post of my volunteer activities when I meet organisations that require my skills.
5. Spend time with friends and family
Your friends and family are the most important people in your life. They support you through thick and thin. They are also the ones who make life more enjoyable and meaningful. As you get older and busier with work and other responsibilities, it can be hard to find time to spend with them. However, you should make it a priority to stay in touch with them and show them how much you appreciate them. You can call them regularly, send them messages or cards, visit them often, or plan trips or outings with them. You’ll cherish the moments and memories that you create with them.

6. Take care of your health
Your health is your most valuable asset and affects every aspect of your life. If you want to live a long and happy life, you need to take care of your physical and mental health before you turn 30. This means eating a balanced diet that provides enough nutrients for your body; exercising regularly that keeps you fit and strong; getting enough sleep that restores your energy and mood; avoiding smoking, drinking, or drugs that harm your health; and managing stress that affects your well-being. You should also visit your doctor and dentist regularly and get any checkups or treatments that you need.
I remember when I started going to the gym. It was out of trying to get rid of my weight in a short space of time. However, it has become a huge part of my life. You can also go and check out my cookbook (which I will update soon) to see how I managed my wellbeing in my 20s while preparing for my 30s.

7. Take risks and try new things
Your 20s are a time of experimentation and exploration, so don’t be afraid to take risks and try new things. You might surprise yourself with what you can do and learn. You might also discover new opportunities and possibilities that you never imagined. Taking risks and trying new things can also help you grow as a person, overcome your fears, and achieve your goals. Whether it’s applying for your dream job, starting your own business, moving to a new city, or asking someone out, go for it and see what happens. Go on that dating app and you’ll probably meet the person of your dreams! You might regret the things that you didn’t do more than the things that you did.
These are some of the things to do before you turn 30 that will make your life more fulfilling and rewarding. Of course, these are not the only things that you can or should do in your 20s. You can also create your own list of things that are important and meaningful to you and share them in the comments. The main thing is to enjoy your life and make the most of it while you can. Remember, age is just a number, and it’s never too late to start living your best life.
